This lightweight helmet features a thermoinjected shell that incorporates a special polymer blend enriched with varying degrees of thickness, designed to offer the optimal combination of impact protection and light weight.
The lightweight outer shell is made of an impact-resistant and technologically advanced thermoplastic material in three sizes (Youth Small, Youth Medium and Youth Large. SM3 Youth weighs 1060g (ECE) and 1170g (DOT).
Separate versions of the shells for DOT and ECE requirements; the DOT-certified version of the helmet's inner shell is constructed with a composite fiber assembled between the outer shell and EPS liner to provide maximum impact protection.
The fit can be adjusted to the rider's head, thanks to the helmet cap and cheek pad, which are available as spare parts in different thicknesses.
Youth Medium (YM) and Youth Large (YL) sizes share the same EPS size, which allows YM-sized riders to initially purchase a YM helmet and then configure it for a Youth Large size as they grow, thanks to the replacement headset and cheek pad pieces.
Youth Small (YS) has a smaller EPS size and can be customized through cheek pads only. Extensive research conducted by Alpinestars has shown that children wearing a YS size are very small, typically 3 to 4 years old, and therefore require a dedicated helmet fit...
